I’m special, just like you

I grew up being told to never brag about my accomplishments or about my abilities.  Sounds like a good philosophy doesn’t it?  Sure, except when it’s not.  Let me explain.

How far do you think any of our favorite music stars would have gotten if they never thought themselves special or said “I have a talent I am great at”?  I love the singer P!nk, her songs are the music track to my life.  In P!nk’s younger years she was quite the outspoken woman and I am thankful for that.  Think of all the joys you would have not had if your favorite singer/actor never stood up and said “Check me out over here!!”

I’ve spent many years hiding my talents.  My close friends and family know about them, they encouraged and even tell me I am special.  The voice inside telling me I can’t brag always seemed louder.  Let’s be honest here, that’s not the voice of humility, it’s the voice of insecurity and fear.

Here is another fact I have learned:

How can anyone else believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself?

Can you cook?  Do you acknowledge how much creativity goes into that?  Are you a photographer?  Do you acknowledge that you see things others don’t notice?  Each and every one of us has some type of talent.  It might come so easy to you that you don’t give it a second thought.   I challenge you to revisit that.

While each of us is special and each of us is talented there is only one you.  You are the only one who can do your talent just like you.   Please share that with us, enrich us and dazzle us.
